About Portafortuna European Travel Pages

Welcome to the Portafortuna Travel Pages. We hope you enjoy visiting us as much as we have enjoyed creating these pages of travel information for you. We love Europe, and we want to share the wonderful places we've discovered with others who, like us, want to experience the people and the culture of the small towns instead of the big cities.
Please stop by often. We will be updating and adding to our Pages frequently.

What is so unique about the Portafortuna Travel Pages? We specialize in web pages that promote the small towns of Europe, their inns and restaurants, places of interest and cultural calendars, concentrating on those that seem to get skipped or are only briefly mentioned in the guide books and other web sites. These towns take you back to a simpler time and are full of history, sightseeing, good food and great wines.

We also highlight some smaller inns and guest houses that we've stayed at in the larger cities, or some of the special attractions that the guide books usually miss. Although we don't cover these cities in depth, we don't want to deprive you of the small treasures we find when we're visiting them!

Please let us know if you've visited any of our featured towns, inns or restaurants, and what you thought of them. We're always looking for ways to improve our service and would love to get suggestions from you on interesting places we haven't covered yet. Better yet, be an active part of the Portafortuna Community by sharing your story, article, photos, etc. with us. Send them to the webmaster and they will be published with your name. The more people who participate, the more opinions there will be, and the site will all the better for it.

Our Main Sections

Our Special Destinations section is the heart of our web site. It covers the main areas of Europe that we love and which are not on the normal beaten path of the American tourist abroad.

Great Places to Stay lists the hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, and other lodging where we have stayed or that have been recommended to us by our fellow travelers. Included are price ranges and subjective ratings based on our own experiences. We welcome your suggestions and comments for these and other places where you have stayed in Europe.

Stories and Photos is a compilation of travel stories and photographs from our trips. Think of it as our travel journal and use it to help in your own planning. Learn from our mistakes and profit from our experiences, or simply enjoy the tales and pictures as an armchair traveler.

Nifty Resources contains useful resources, both in cyberspace and the real world. Categories include Travel Basics (general travel information, tourist offices, airline tickets, car rentals, train travel), Lodging (both services and individual listings), Activities (tours, water travel, languages, schools), and Wining and Dining

Our Itineraries is a listing of the various itineraries that we have followed in our trips to Europe. We tell you what worked and what didn't, and how we went about planning each trip. The itinerary pages also give you an idea of the weather in Europe during different times of the year, as we have been there in three seasons, all but winter.
