1997 - Paris
Special Destinations

Day 19 Monday through Day 22 Thursday - Paris:

Art:
    • No surprises here. This being our first trip to Paris, we didn't get much of a chance to find the hidden gems--we were too busy trying to see the obvious attractions. We were not disappointed in the Louvre or the Orsay museums and were enthralled and awed by the quantity and the quality of the artwork there. We tried to go into the Art Deco museum but it was closed for refurbishing. Next time.
Beautiful churches and gothic cathedrals:

Maybe not quite as many churches as Rome, but more than you could see in a week, that's for sure. Besides the obvious cathedrals in all the tour guides, we found one small church you shouldn't miss seeing. It happened to be right across the street from our hotel and was a little gem called St. Roch. Because it survived the Revolution and the World Wars, it has inherited many sculptures and paintings from other, less fortunate churches in Paris. It's a treasure trove of art and a beauty in itself. Don't miss it.

Great hotel: A great little home in Paris, right in the heart of town and minutes from the Louvre, Tuilleries, and the Champs Élysées. The breakfast was wonderful with fresh croissants and rolls, and the room we had was clean and comfortable. The people were friendly and the rates reasonable. What more could you need?

New renovations since our stay include air conditioning and wi-fi, and of course prices have risen. Please check their web site for the latest rates and to make reservations.
