1999: Three Trips in One
Day 1: Saturday
The view from the top

Mirmande sits atop a hill, overlooking beautiful countryside. We arrived in the rain and dark, however, and were totally unaware of the beauty surrounding us until the next morning, when the clouds lifted and revealed the splendor below us. It was one of those views that never seems to get boring. We walked around the village, getting different vantage points from which to view the scenery below.
Mirmande
Strolling through the village
This lovely medieval town was a perfect place for a nice walk. The paved streets were practically deserted on that Sunday morning as we made our way through the maze to the top of the hill. At the very top there was an old church and graveyard that we came upon after a short hike through a heavily wooded area, but it wasn't open for visitors.

We only saw a few shops, which were down near the entrance to the village, across from the new church. This church was open and we peeked inside to get a glimpse of the splendor.

A charming small hotel indeed. We had no idea how lovely this place would be, or we would have planned on staying another day. Our host and hostess were friendly and helpful, the rooms comfortable, nicely decorated and very clean, and breakfast was sumptuous.

The restaurant was also a delight. The meal was a feast, with more courses than we could eat. Even though the hotel was small and not fully booked, and the village itself was also small, the restaurant was packed. It must be a favorite for residents from the surrounding area.
What else is there?
The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and we would love to go back to explore that region a little more.
